CREATIVE Networks Launch Event at tic
Collaborative Networking Event for Creative Industry Professionals
Wednesday 17th November - From 6.00pm 'til LATE at tic
Millennium Point, Curzon Street, Birmingham, B4 7XG

The first tic Creative Networks evening was held at Birmingham’s Millennium Point, on 17th November 2004. Over 160 guests, from screen-based creative businesses, attended.
They heard eMedia Centre Manager, Steve Smith, present the new tic project opportunity for creative businesses.

The project name is CMBC (short for Content for Markets, Business and Communities!). Steve identified four key elements in the tic’s eMedia approach

Lifelong learning – degree programmes and short skills training and development courses
Industry collaboration – networks and business collaboration support activities
Professional services – technology and equipment resources
Employment and revenue opportunities – market expansion and development initiatives

tic CREATIVE Networks events are planned to take place monthly. They form an integral part of tic’s mission to stimulate the growth of a major entrepreneurial, screen-based media cluster of companies in the West Midlands.
The tic’s objective is to offer the UK’s most comprehensive and integrated screen-based, eMedia, content-creation, management, training and distribution resource.

Steve Smith also chaired a Q&A session with a panel of tic client-partners, including (from left to right in picture below):
David Proud (Antika)
David Broadbent (Cyberjenn Concept Innovation Design)
Pip Piper (One Small Barking Dog / Fin Du Jour)
Paul Davies (TV Junction)
Mark Pressdee (Macoy Media)
The Panel

The evening began with a buffet and guests were also invited to tour the tic’s facilities. These included:
TV studio and control room
Media Vault’s Avid editing studio and FCP (Final Cut Pro) editing suites
This was enhanced by the presence of professionals who have already benefited from Media Vault ‘assists’ such as:
Saranjit Birdi Studio3
Lali Productions Predacom
Antidote Productions Emma Cutler
Subunitfour 3rd Eye, Open Mind Surgery
Blue Hippo Goodmedia
Vixia Peter Rigg
The evening concluded with guests retiring to a nearby Gosta Green pub where musical entertainment was provided by Blue Whale Studios’ DJs!

An analysis of the questionnaires from the evening indicated the strong desire for such networking meetings, monthly. In addition there was a desire to hold ‘market making’ activities as well as arranging the provision of a secure, internet-based platform.
