Creative Networks is about bringing all parties involved in screen-based media in the West Midlands together. This includes the diverse and often disparate creative companies, freelancers and associated businesses in the region. Creative Networks seeks to promote successful business development and collaboration, and long term sustainability through knowledge and use of innovative technologies and creative practices.

Regular monthly face-to-face networking events are held at tic. These events offer opportunities for companies to network and make pitches, detailing the resources they are seeking or the projects and challenges they are planning.

4th Creative Networking Event
Technology Innovation Centre (tic), Millennium Point
Wednesday 23rd February 2005 - From 6.00pm 'til LATE
On a cold Brummie Winter's night nearly 100 brave entrepreneurs, business owners and representatives of SME's braved the elements to attend tic's the 4th Creative Networks event at Millennium Point. Over a hot buffet attendees 'trade chat' was plentiful, before everyone moved into the Lecture Theatre. Find out more...

3rd Creative Networking Event

Wednesday 26th January 2005 - From 6.00pm 'til LATE
The evening began with guests enjoying a hot buffet in the tic Cafe, after which the formal part of the evening took place in the main Lecture Theatre. The increasingly popular ‘client pitching session’ provided a lively introduction to several new and developing enterprises in the region. Feedback from previous Creative Network events had led to the opportunity to hear from, and speak directly to, two of the primary funding agents of the West Midlands. 2nd Creative Networking Event
Technology Innovation Centre (tic), Millennium Point
Wednesday 15th December 2004 - From 6.00pm 'til LATE
After food and refreshments in the restaurant the event focus moved to the Lecture Theatre on L2 which was soon full. Attendees heard and saw presentations by Creative Pool partner-members, Black Country Chamber and Business Link’s Aidan Sheridan, and the Director of The Lighthouse Media Centre, Wolverhampton, Frank Challenger.
Interactive Media Centre Manager, Steve Smith, then introduced ‘pitches' and the ‘audience’ then broke into informal sub-groups who engaged in ‘breakout sessions’ to identify how the Creative Networks format could be best enhanced to suit its user-group.

FLIP Animation Festival 2004
22nd - 23rd October 2004
Light House, Wolverhampton's Media Centre & Wolverhampton Art Gallery - Flip is a brand new animation festival for the West Midlands. tic's partner Light House (part-funded by ESF) led this initiative with support from Wolverhampton Art Gallery and the University of Wolverhampton’s Creative Industries Project. Running over two days between 22 and 23 October 2004, the event included talks, workshops and screenings. Find out more...

The Birmingham City Council Creative City Awards 2004

The tic joined forces with Birmingham City Council to sponsor the Creative City 2004 Award for Outstanding Innovation. Steve Smith, tic’s eMedia Centre Manager, presented this to Sjolander da Cruz Architects at the prestigious Gala Awards Dinner held at the ICC on Wednesday October 20th. Find out more...

Royal Television Society – Midlands Centre Awards Dinner 2004

The tic sponsored the Royal Television Society’s 2004 Award for Best Regional Programme, demonstrating its enthusiastic support for screen-based industries.
The award was won by Current Affairs Series 'Inside Out' and was presented by Michael French (Eastenders, Born & Bred) to Andrew Tomlinson (Editor), Jacob Hickey (Assistant Editor) and Rachel Bowering (Director). Find out more...

The Media Vault Final Cut Pro Users Group

The last day of September saw the SECOND Final Cut User Group meeting for the Midlands taking place at the Technology Innovation Centre (tic). Starting out by looking at just how easy it is to integrate Photoshop graphics into Final Cut projects, he also took a look at the dazzling array of new effects available from Boris FX, and talked us through how to make the best use of multi-camera footage in the Final Cut timeline. West Midlands black comedy voted Best Film at second tic Digital Short Film Festival - A black comedy called ‘Fanatic’, by first-time West Midlands screen-writer Lee Murphy, has won the judges accolade of top film at the Technology Innovation Centre’s 2004 Short Digital Film Festival. The inaugural ‘Application of Technology Award’ at this year’s Birmingham Screen Festival was presented to Warwickshire-based video games developer, Blitz Games. Sponsored by the Technology Innovation Centre, the award was created to highlight innovative use of technology within film, television and multimedia production.

Its e-mail and telephone enquiry service, offers up to 15 minutes research time free-of-charge. i4 Training Courses Reviewed
December 2003
Courses were supported through European Social Fund/Learning Skills Council co-financing and fully subsidised. The first i4 courses took place in mid-December 2003. The series of 3 day events attracted over 30 delegates.

The courses have already seen success for participants. Several of the course graduates are developing pilot products and have connected with The Media Vault project to take advantage of the supported facilities. Find out more...

Royal Television Society – Midlands Centre Awards Dinner 2003
October 11th 2003

The tic sponsored the RSA’s 2003 Award for Best Regional Programme, demonstrating its enthusiastic support for screen-based industries. The Award was won by Central News (South) and presented by celebrity-comedian Jack Dee at a ceremonial dinner held at Birmingham's ICC on Saturday October 11th. The event was attended by an impressive array of Midlands media personalities. The tic Media Vault team were joined by clients who had already received support from the project. The event was an important celebration of talent and achievement by all those involved in Midlands creative industries.

Shropshire Star e-Vent 2003

On Thursday October 9th 2003 more than 200 people converged on Shropshire’s Birthplace of Industry, Ironbridge, to learn more about the 21st Century’s industrial revolution. That of electronic communications.
The second e-Vent, organised by the Shropshire Star was held at the new Enginuity Centre, Coalbrookdale. It gave visitors a free taste of the latest news in both the e-Commerce and new technology sector - an ideal opportunity for tic’s Media Vault team to promote its unique, cutting-edge, digital media creation and management tools and resources.

Black Country Chamber of Commerce

Networking & Start-Up
As leading regional UK provider of training, education and support services in interactive media production, for visual and screen-based businesses, the tic joined over 30 other exhibitors at the Bescot Stadium, Walsall, on Thursday September 25th 2003. This provided Black Country people with the opportunity to investigate options for self-employment and business development in the creative e-Media field. Through Media Vault, the tic offers Content Creation, Management and Distribution resources with up to £2,500 or 5 days’ worth of assistance being made available through equipment hire or specialist technical advice and services.

Custard Creative Industries Forum
September 17th 2003
The Custard Factory held an open evening on Wednesday September 17th, organised by South Birmingham College for over 100 attendees from the creative industries. Participating with 10 other business support organisations, the tic Media Vault promoted its Content Creation resources. These include the DAM system providing a comprehensive solution for digital media management, professional expertise and video production facilities housed at Millennium Point in Birmingham City Centre.

Short Digital Film Festival 2003
25 - 26 June 2003
The first Short Digital Film Festival held by Birmingham’s Technology Innovation Centre (tic) at Millennium Point has been won by locally-based Rage Ensemble - a performing arts company for 14-19 year olds. Find out more...
