| 2. Review of December's
Creative Networks Event - Anthony Wilson Speaks |
Thursday 15th December From 6.00pm til LATE at tic, Millennium Point
Following the popularity of film producer Carl Schoenfeld’s visit to Creative Networks in October, tic continued its support of Midlands Creative Industry professionals at its Christmas Party. tic bought guests yet another established and accomplished speaker on this cold December evening.
Anthony Wilson, came to tic to perform the officially opening of its brand new £half million Sound Recording and TV Studio suite. This facility will be used to train students, technicians and creatives in the West Midlands for many years to come! After opening the studio, and sharing some insights as to what he finds useful in broadcasting to an audience of millions (as a Granada TV presenter), Wilson joined guests in the tic Lecture Theatre to discuss ‘Growing a Successful Music Industry in the Regions’.
Over 200 attendees heard master of ceremonies, Steve Smith, welcome tic’s special guest. An expert on growing a successful music-based business outside of the M25, in the eighties and nineties, Anthony Wilson launched bands from New Order to The Happy Mondays and co-founded the legendary Hacienda nightclub. Today, he runs F4 Records from its Manchester base and is co-founder of ‘In The City’, the UK’s annual international music convention (and Europe’s biggest urban music festival!).
After Anthony's presentation, the evening progressed to the i-Bar for socialising, collaboration and many festive drinks. The karaoke went down a storm, with tic's own Andrew Bourbon showing off his fantastic voice with songs varying from American Pie to It’s Not Unusual. Professional singer, Yaz Alexander, delighted the crowd with a selection of original tunes.

Leroy Henry & Rasib Khan (Right) |
All the Christmas party guests received a copy of the brand new board game, Alphabet Runner. Developed by local entrepreneur, Rasib Khan, this competitive game is so much fun that kids won’t notice their spelling improving like magic!
tic supported Rasib from the beginning in his business venture through its ‘Market Maker’ initiative. You can see the website that tic built for him at www.alphabetrunner.com and play the interactive version online. Why not try to beat the highest score! |

Anthony Wilson - UK Music Entrepreneur
Creative Networks special Christmas guest speaker was Anthony Wilson, successful UK music entrepreneur and founder of the 'In The City' International Music Convention.
Anthony gave the network members an inspiring presentation, as he discussed how his career - and the careers of the many artists he has worked with - began and developed. Anthony shared his '10 Ws' plan for success. He told how a combination of wilfulness, asking why and the world wide web can take musicians in the regions to new levels. He also shared some ‘behind the scenes’ secrets from the careers of New Order and Bob Dylan, and explained why he believed Shaun Ryder was the greatest poet of the 1990s.
He also shared ways in which he continues to promote new bands on his new record label, F4 and explained why he thought digital radio will change the face of Black British music.
