Welcome to November's Issue of the Newsletter for members of "The Creative Networks"

Many Thanks to all those who attended last month's event to celebrate the 1st birthday of Creative Networks. Despite many other events around the region, we still saw over 140 of you!

'Creative Networks' at the UCE Birmingham's Technology Innovation Centre (tic) is about bringing together all parties involved in sound and screen-based media in the West Midlands. 'Creative Networks' seeks to promote both successful business development and collaboration. It also seeks to contribute to the establishment of a strong, long-term, sound and screen-based Creative Industry in the West Midlands. The tic achieves this through increasing both knowledge and use of innovative technologies, creative practice and business processes.

Regular monthly networking events are held at tic. They offer opportunities for individuals and companies to network, make pitches, identify the resources they are seeking or support for the projects they are planning.

Visit our online portal www.creativenetworksonline.com for up-to-date news, funding, business support, training and tender opportunities.

2. Review of October's Creative Networks Event - Making The Perfect Pitch

Thursday 27th October - From 6.00pm til LATE at tic, Millennium Point

The tic once again welcomed a mass of businesses and creative professionals from across the West Midlands to the Creative Networks’ 1st Birthday party, celebrating twelve successful months of networking and collaboration in the West Midlands. With both hot food and wine available, many creative industry delegates arrived slightly earlier than usual to take full advantage!

Following feedback from previous events, the tic’s Keith Osmans introduced his new key fob system.

This enables visitors to glide into the building with only the scan of a barcode from their keyring, removing the need for something all of us hate: queuing!

This meant that the tic Café was very quickly alive with energy as freelancers, start-up enterprises and established business professionals discussed current projects, industry developments and collaboration opportunities.
Guest Speaker

Carl Schoenfeld - Successful film & TV producer
Topic: "Making The Perfect Pitch"

The evening’s special guest speaker was Carl Schoenfeld, successful film and TV producer with a proven track record in industry. Carl supports emerging filmmakers by guiding them over the common hurdles their projects face during development-financing, shooting and marketing. His training courses and tailored production services are designed to prepare new talent for the film industry. He began his career as a cameraman and editor, and for the past 10 years he has combined producing his own films with providing production services and training seminars worldwide.
Carl gave a valuable insider’s view as to how the film and television industries tick, giving the attendees first hand advice on how to pitch effectively for major projects. He reinforced the point that previously prohibitive entry costs to digital filmmaking were being rapidly reduced. This presented the opportunity for a new generation of filmmakers to use their ingenuity on a level playing field. This will provide a platform for the Region’s filmmaking talent to compete with established businesses, which has been a long term challenge, without massive financial investment.

Carl’s contribution to the evening was given a rapturous applause by the audience, who went away with food for thought on how to adapt their own approach to pitching for a successful future.
