2. Event Reviewed - February's Creative Networks Event

Wednesday 23rd February - From 6.00pm ‘til LATE at tic, Millennium Point

On a cold Brummie Winter’s night nearly 100 brave entrepreneurs, business owners and representatives of SME's braved the elements to attend tic’s the 4th Creative Networks event at Millennium Point. Over a hot buffet attendees ‘trade chat’ was plentiful, before everyone moved into the Lecture Theatre. tic's Centre Manager for Interactive Media Steve Smith opened the formal part of the evening, pointing out that those gathered were the people really representing screen-based media in this region, and seeking to meet people to do business.
He told the meeting that Creative Networks meetings to date had resulted in local companies preparing and issuing bids for around £2m of funding!

This then led into the 'client pitching session' an increasingly popular session that invites clients to introduce their company and new and developing projects within the region.

Summaries of the latest Client Pitches

Nadine Stavonina: Nadine Stavonina de Montagnac: Russian by birth, British since 1990, classically trained in music composition and journalism. This West Midlands artist, writer and musician had encountered obstacles to her music career (because of her age and foreign accent) and returned to writing. She had created a winning ‘piece for a Channel 4 script-writing competition which was made into film in 2003.
Her current project “Educational Methods through Fairytales" (in a multicultural society) is themed around traditional Russian Fairytales, told in a modern way relevant to British Youth today. Nadine is seeking sponsorship and collaboration in the process of creating the fully formed 3-D characters for animation as well as fine art students. The project is a thematic method of learning that's also fun and seen as part of “cool” culture incorporating stories, games, music and technology. It has gone through the first stage of submission for full developmental support from NESTA/ Futurelab. Method of delivery: interactive CD Rom, Website with live link via Broadband and computer animation.

Harry Hemus: Harry wanted to tell people about his Dividi Projects business, which offers DVD management and authoring. He specialises in the elements which govern the processes of DVD mastering. These are crucial when presenting master DVDs for mass production and distribution.

• Vision is crucial
• Practice the process of establishing a concept, communicating it, and marshalling resources with care, and applying…
• …the 80/20 rule. This relates to the proportion of input-to-output, causes-to-consequences, efforts-to-results, and, when “applied to business”, culminates in the single principle of seeking to “generate the most money with the least effort.”
